Emerson Page & Where the Light Enters is a coming of age story that does more than just simply capture your attention. When I received this novel in the mail, the cover instantly drew my attention. It's unique, it's thoughtfully designed, & it captures the entire stories use of creativity. That's the cover alone. When you open up the novel, you will find a note from the author, Christa Avampato. I can honestly say that an author's note has never drawn me to it as much as Christa's did. If I didn't already want to read this novel, then Christa's note would have had me wanting to. In her note she clearly explains her intentions with Emerson Page & helps everyone to see that sometimes, we just need support. Not guidance, or instruction, but the simple fact of someone believing in you. Christa's author note had me in tears. Then I started reading her story... Emerson Page & Where the Light Enters, is beautifully written & one of the greatest page turners you could ask for. The main character is only 13, which may seem like this is more of a children's book, but it isn't just for juniors. Emerson Page is a story that humankind should read. As a general book..for all ages, because Emerson Page's story does NOT age. Emerson is the "little sister" character that will inspire your children, and even yourself. She is kind, curious, beautiful, and smart. She fights for everything she loves and even risks her life to save the ones she cares for. This novel is split into several small chapters, with an easy to read writing style. It is for sure a page turner that will hook you in the very beginning, but the way Christa has written the story, it allows you to read in small intervals and come back at any time without fear of losing your place. Due to her writing style, Emerson Page becomes a very quick read. (I read it in one sitting while at the laundromat.) Keep in mind that this is written for a young adult audience, so you wont need you pocket dictionary for this one. There aren't any trigger warnings that I can immediately bring to mind. Emerson Page & Where the Light Enters is a clean read. The isn't any romance, or anything that could possible be considered inappropriate. There is magic involved, as well as some mystical stuff. It is all tastefully done, & isn't overly exuberant. Christa Avampato has recorded a tale that can't be defined by one simple genre. Or one simple word in general. If I had to describe it, I would describe it as stardust though. It's beautiful, & clever. Old but new. Young, & powerful. If you are looking for a bedtime story, or a story to simply pass the time, or even a story for your kids, go pick up a copy of Emerson Page & Where the Light Enters. You won't be disappointed. I highly recommend this novel to everyone.
